It is indeed heinous and most of the elephants at ENP already have some form of disability due to their experience. It's heartbreaking but I feel relieved that they're in a safer place. I wouldn't know also know about it if I didn't go to the north of Thailand- Chiang Mai. The elephant rides are too popular in more famous tourist sites like Bangkok or Phuket.
