I have some knowledgeable rodent friends that have saved some wild mice and rats who I discussed this with, and to my surprise there isn't as much concern as even I worried about. There is always a risk, but I think in this case and where I live, it is very low, and the few possible diseases that can be transmitted are not life-threatening as far as I am understanding.
