Some Things Never Get Old
One of my favorite things on the homestead is baby animals. I can't get enough of them. Just over a year ago we invested in a gently used Sportsman 1502 incubator and that's when my love for hatching began. I had no idea how much fun it would be to hatch out chicks and ducklings. I mean, I assumed it would be fun, but I had no clue the sheer joy it would bring.
This is one set of our brooder boxes (we have two). Each brooder has 3 separate compartments to keep the babies separated. I wish I could take credit for building these, but a local man builds them and he does a fantastic job.
The inside of the incubator full of eggs. A couple days before they are due to hatch I take them out of the rotating trays on top and put them in the bottom to hatch! I love hatching days! My girls and I enjoy getting an egg out that is hatching and let it finish hatching in our hands. It brings us so much laughter and joy to welcome the new life into the world.
Here are some pics of some of the chicks and ducklings we hatched.
Right now we only sell locally, but maybe we will expand eventually. We raise all our animals on non-GMO feed.
