Few Things I Learned from My Pets

in #animals9 years ago

My first ever blog here on Steemit was how my dog thought me patience. Not a real Introduceyourself post, but looking back it was, for me. If you knew me in real life, you would know few things:

  • Loves animals;
  • Optimistic;
  • Sarcastic;
  • Family oriented;
  • Smiles a lot;
  • Loves beer;
  • Addicted to music, books and TV shows;
  • A little bit obsessive with cleaning;
  • Easy to talk to;
  • Supportive;
  • Raised by wolfs (well, older brother);

But, to get back to my animal loving side of personality.
First of all, it wasn't always there. Yes, I was terrified to be even close to anything animal-like, even bugs. I would scream and run away if I saw an ant, let alone something bigger.
So, my parents (both animal lovers) decided to get me a dog, so I would overcome my fears. Since they don't really believe you should buy animals, we adopted one.

And there began my first lesson with pets. I was about 5 years old, and the little black pup 1 year old. He was named Jerry (by the mouse from the cartoon), and he stayed small for a very short period of time. He grew in to a big, black and playful dog in no time, nothing like the mouse he was named after, but the name stayed.
He thought me RESPONSIBILITIES, I had to feed him, walk him and clean after him. My parents were supportive, but stayed away and let me do all the small chores. We bonded after few months and my fear of animals disappeared. I don't rally have any photos of that dog, so I will put one from Pexels.

A few years after Jerry, I found a stray golden retriever. He was on the street for who knows how long, very thin and in poor condition, but with a spark in his eyes. I took him to the vet, to find out he was about two years old and has owners. I contacted them immediately, to let them know the good news that I found him, but it turned out they didn't want him any more, so they've let him go.
I was in quite the shock that someone can treat animals like that, but also happy that he found new home. We named him Leo, and he was an ultimate good boy! He was so scared of anything resembling a pole (brooms, shovels, bigger branches), we could see that he was beaten for sure. And he thought me FORGIVENESS, that dog was such an amazing creature. He soon forgave people for mistreating him, and became instant friend with every one who ever saw him (people and animals). He lived a joyful life, and died of old-age, peacefully.

Leo, 2015.

After Leo came Minnie, one of our current pets. And she is a type of dog that books can be written about. The intelligence and character on this one are out of this world. She did though me patience, since I have her from 2 months old. But she also thought me to be happy that I wake up, to play as much as I can and to sleep when tired. And I hope that lessons with Minnie are yet to come, since she is still a puppy.

All along I have a cat, I got her for my birthday in 2007., so she is an old lady, but going strong. Her name is Missy, and she thought me to be SELFISH. Yes, well you know how cats are, pretty independent and not really sensitive. You have to love them for "I really don't care" attitude, and we can learn to put ourselves first from cats. She is very calm and lazy, sleeps a lot and loves to hide in warm places.

We also have a pet lizard, but I can't really say he/she (not sure) thought me anything, except if reincarnation is a real thing, I don't want to come back as a lizard.

How about you? Do you have any pets, and if so did you learn anything from them?

With love,
Tamara

I love the way you describe your cat @tamacvet it is absolutely spot on! I am a cat person but when I was growing up my best friend had a dog called Josh. It was a little Jack Russel dog that was always excited to see me when ever I went over to his house. In fact that dog was just excited at anything and everything lol It would go nuts if the sun came out or the it noticed it's tail and ran after it for 5 minutes before forgetting about all that and jumping at a tree trunk after a crow that it had spotted. I remeber being infected with Josh's unflappable excitment at the world. Anyway, I'm still a cat person but I have a place in my heart for dogs too 🐱🐶😉

Well @raj808, it's hard for me to admit that I am a cat person while I live with a dog, but cats have a special space in my heart, and Missy is the reason!
I love Jack Russel, but they are "too much" for me :D
Thank you for your lovely comment and support!

Minnieeeeee 😍❤️
What an insightful, beautiful post @tamacvet!
😃

Thank you dear, we send you a lot of kisses and hugs! <3
She was sitting in my lap the whole time, waiting for me to finish writing so we could play fetch!

Enjoy your time together! 😊

Thank you for the inspiration I received with your text.

You are more than welcome!

Leo was such a beautiful dog.
And look at Minnie, oh my God! So cute and tiny!
Missy has beautiful eyes!
Great lessons they have taught you, I do believe we can learn so much from animals. At the moments, I only have a kitten that lives in my and my neighbor's backyard, she/he is not really a pet but loves to play and cuddle.

You know I adore cats, I always joke around that I will be the "cat lady" one day :)
Thank you for your support and comments <3

Animals can teach us a lot. Very nice post, @tamacvet!

Thank you!
I love your art, keep it coming!

Thanks a lot!

You actually caught me by surprise and made me laugh aloud when you concluded with what your lizard taught you. Very nice.

One glitch, if I may mention it and it persists throughout other posts of yours.

You keep using 'thought' or 'though' when you want to say taught or teach.

First of all, thank you for you comment and support. And second, thank you for catching that mistake, I will be more careful next time!
