The Golden Retriever or Golden Labrador is a breed of dog that is hunted in the United Kingdom, more specifically in Scotland, around 1850. With its characteristics of collecting dog, bloodhound, bloodhound and dog of waters, it is a skillful hunting dog with Tracking skills He has a friendly attitude and an attitude that has made him the third most popular family breed-by registration-in the United States, the fifth most popular in Australia, and the eighth most popular breed in the United Kingdom.

 Coat and color

As its name implies, its coat comes in shades of light and dark gold. Its mantle consists of two types of hair: an outer layer of fur that is water resistant and slightly wavy, which pelecha in small amounts throughout the year, and another inner layer of soft undercoat that keeps the dog cool in summer and warm in winter. The inner layer, in general, is short and stuck to the belly, moving in the spring and autumn.

The cloak should never be too long, since this can be a detriment in the field, especially when the dog retrieves a prey.  The AKC sets the color standard as a "rich and bright gold in different shades", rejecting colors that are extremely clear or dark. The (pure lanco) and (red) are unacceptable colors, as is the color black. The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom accepts the color cream, but the judges can also reject a specimen with pink nose, or that lacks pigment. Mahogany and black colors are also not accepted in British dog shows.

 Training

They are active animals with a patient behavior, typical of a dog raised to sit quietly for hours on a hunt. Adult specimens have the ability to focus on a given task. Care should be taken to avoid overloading work. Another feature, related to their hunting heritage, is that they are the right size to enter inside and outside the boats. The Golden are trainable - due to their intelligence and athletic ability - and excel in obedience tests.

They are also competitive in agility and other performance events. Hard training methods are unnecessary, because they often respond better to training styles with positive reinforcement. He is appreciated for his high level of sociability with people and his calmness. Because of this, it is commonly used as a guide dog, assistance dog, help dog and dog for search and rescue.

Health

The average life span of the golden retriever race, based on two recent surveys in the United Kingdom, is approximately 12 years.  Because they are susceptible to specific diseases, a responsible breeder will proactively minimize the risk by professionally evaluating the health of their breeding partners, and selecting the dogs on the basis of complementary traits, apart from having annual veterinary checks on their animals.

It is known that they suffer from genetic disorders and other diseases. Hip dysplasia is common in the breed, so when a puppy is acquired, it is advisable to ask the breeder for health tests of the parents of the puppy, as well as to compare the pedigree with the Kennel Club of the country where he lives.

Overweight is also common in the race. Puppies should consume about three cups a day and adults three to five cups, depending on the type of dog food that is used, or if they are fed naturally with BARF, the rations will also be according to how active they are. .

The First family dog that I remember was Rex the golden retriever I remember going with my parents to collect him when I was about two. He was a great companion in my younger days although he did break more or my toys than me. I still remember the fun we used to have and the sadness I felt when his life ended when he was 14

Touch is the first sense the dog develops. The entire body, including the paws, is covered with touch-sensitive nerve endings.
