Save our Bees
Bees have alway held a place in the hearts of my family. My Dad and his wife both have matching Bee tattoos and have always had a shared love for Bees.
We also ironically moved into a new home when I was a kid. The first house my Dad and his wife bought together. Upon moving in we suddenly realised we had a huge infestation of Honey Bees in our attic. This was the first time i’d realised what Honey Bees were.
Irony at its best!
I always found Bees an odd thing to love until I heard a friend saying how the Bee population was drastically dropping. This lead me to do some research.
As early as the 90’s farmers had been concerned on the sudden drop in the Bee population. Farmers and Scientists scratched their heads trying to work out why.
The issue is more prevalent in the US. According to a nationwide survey during April 2015 - April 2016 the Honeybee population dropped up to 44%. The drop in Bees is happening worldwide it has just hit the US the hardest.
You may be thinking,
How does a dropping Bee population affect me?
Well the chances are you’re depending on these little buzzing insects more than you think.
Over ⅓ of the food we eat depends on pollinating insects. These foods include:
Why is the number dropping?
Insecticides pose the biggest threat to the pollinators, as the name indicates they are designed to kill insects and they are widely used over the environment.
The chemicals within these Insecticides are physically and mentally affecting the Bees. Such effects are loss of flower recognition and disorientation
How can you help?
It’s up to us as humans to make a change and do our part in keeping the Bee population strong.
We need to help the Bees help us.
Absolutely agree. I plant in my garden mainly domestic plants for the insects and the birds. They dont need the billionst english meadow or thujahedge. These things are totally unworthy for bees, insects, small animals and birds. They need more flowers like lavender and domestic plants.
This is so right! Im glad you are doing things to help :)
If the bees extinct, that will be really bad news for all of us.
Yes it will be a massive problem!
