The wolf is known as the “Gray wolf” or “Grey wolf” is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America.

The Global wolf population was estimated to be 300,000 in 2003 and is considered to be of least concern by the international union for conservation of nature (IUCN)

Types of wolves
There are two widely recognized species of wolves in the world
• The red grey
• The grey
Additionally, there is a little-known canid, which lives in Ethiopian highlands called Simensis that is thought to be a very close relative of the wolf

• Wolves are the largest members of dog family
• The “Canis simensis” (Ethiopian wolf lives in Africa)
• Wolves are estimated to live up to 13 years old
• Wolves live in packs of up to 20
• A female wolf (or “bitch”) can have up to six young (”Pups”)
• A single wolf can be up to 5ft in length and standing at 3ft
The first gray wolves(canis lupis) most likely originated in Asia. It probably took up residence in North America some 700,000 years ago
