আমার চিড়িয়াখানায় ইমু পাখির পাখির ডিম্ দেখার পর ইমু পাখি নিয়ে লেখার আগ্রহ তৈরী হয় ।
ইমু পাখি উট পাখির পরে দ্বিতীয় বৃহত্তম পাখি যা অস্ট্রেলিয়া এবং নিউ গিনি তে পাওয়া যায় ইমু অস্ট্রেলিয়ার স্থানীয় পাখি যা উচ্চতায় প্রায় ৫ থেকে ৬ ফুট এর কাছা কাছি কাছি হয়। এরা উড়তে পারে না।

ইমু পাখি দলবদ্ধ ভাবে চলাফেরা করতে পছন্দ করে। প্রাপ্তবয়ক ইমু সাধারণত ৪৫ থেকে ৫৫ কেজি পর্যন্ত হয়ে থাকে। এরা পোকামাকড়, ফল ফলাদি, ঘাস ফড়িং ইত্যাদি খেয়ে জীবন ধারণ করে। স্ত্রী ইমু ৭ থেকে ১৪ টি ডিম পাড়ে। পুরুষ ইমু ডিমে তা দেয়, ব্যাপারটা আশ্চর্যজনক হলেও সত্য এই ডিমে তা দিতে গিয়ে তার ওজন প্রায় ৩ ভাগের এক ভাগ কমে যায়। এই সময় সে শরীরের তৈলাক্ত অংশ থেকে খাবার সংগ্রহ করে অর্থাৎ বডি ফ্যাট থেকে। আল্লার সৃষ্টি বড় আজীব আমরা মানুষরা পারি না কেন?

উল্লেখ্য ইমুর ডিমও বেশ বড় প্রায় ৬ ইঞ্চি লম্বা ওজন প্রায় ১ কেজি।

Imu birds are the second largest bird after Ostrich , which is found in Australia and New Guinea. Emu is native to Australia, which is about 5 to 6 feet tall in height. They can not fly.
Emu birds prefer to move in herds. Adult Imus weight usually from 45 to 55 kg. They eat insects, fruit, grasshoppers etc. The female Imu laid out 7 to 14 eggs.
Note that the Imu birds egg too is about 6 inches in size and weighs around 1 kg.
