THE ANIMALS NEAR US - BIG SNAKES
Commonly called "danger noodles" in some parts, snakes can be a bit of fun if you know what you are doing.
Many people are afraid of any and all snakes, but not the @little-peppers. Of course venomous snakes can be dangerous, and so can large constrictors, but for the most part, there is little actual "danger" that the majority of snakes can put you in.
We are not allowed to capture or interact with snakes on our own, and we cannot pick up ones that we are familiar with either. Even rolling over rocks and logs searching for snakes can be very dangerous, especially for children.
This one happens to be a Black Rat Snake, and it was given to us by @papa-pepper. When dad seems a snake to be "safe" enough, he will sometimes let us hold it. We must keep control of the head on larger ones, like this one. If we firmly grab it by the neck, then, even if it tries, it cannot bite us.
This one looks like it is trying a bit, but Red Pepper has a good grip on the neck. With nonvenomous snakes, even a bite is not that big of a deal as long as you treat it properly and clean the wound (if any wound is even made).
Like so many other animals, if you leave them alone, they will usually leave you alone too.
As always, be educated and wise when choosing to interact with wild animals. Often, the safest choice is just to leave them alone. Since we live where we do and see so many big snakes, we believe that it is best for us to be aware of them and to understand what we are dealing with.

Snakes are nice and easy. Not like fuzzy tailed rodents who will bite clear through your finger.
You are right, squirrels, chipmunks, muskrats and all sorts of furry, fuzzy little guys can be real jerks and have a much worse bite!
Cute pictures and great the little Peppers are getting such an education about the various specimens of wild life. Once I see a snake I leave before I can even discern color or characteristics.
