Happy Birthday Rebel Dog!

Rebel Dog, Enjoying his birthday hammock time.

Today is Rebel Dog's birthday, his first birthday in fact.  In our other post about him, we shared that he has almost died not once, but twice before his first birthday.  For us, his birthday is a milestone.  He's been a pleasure to have as a dog, despite his recent hyper-rebelliousness.

It was a good day for Rebel, starting with bed cuddles in the morning with lots of dabs.   When I got up early this morning, he was hugging Sylvester the cat as if he were a teddy bear, with his mouth hanging open to reveal his teeth.  Sylvester is his best friend, and he protects him from Tequila, who is fond of chasing the cat. I could seriously write a cartoon series about my dogs and cat with the way they act.

This is Sylvester, he has his tongue sticking out because he got in a fight with the wrong bug.

Rebel Dog loves hammocks, when either of us get into a hammock he's there, howling and whining for you to pull him up.  At this point, he's the size of a small person, so when we bring him up it's not for our comfort, but his happiness.  He gets on the silliest of faces, generally involving some sort of smile, ranging from slight to straight grinning, wolfie teeth showing.

Rebel Dog also got to dog run today, which is basically his time to run up and down the mountain.  With recent developments in my life, like glassblowing and gardening, it makes it difficult for me to find the time to run him as I should, so today I made a point to.  He was so excited he damn near flew from the top of the mountain to the bottom squealing in excitement all the way.

He had a delicious birthday meal of pancakes, bacon grease, potaotes and some other random things from around the kitchen.  I make my own dog food, generally out of leftovers, sometimes with rice or potatoes added in as a base.  It's a lot healthier and certainly much cheaper than storebought.

He's been an incredibly interesting dog to watch grow up.  The fact that he is part wolf has really come out lately, both in physical appearance and with behavior.  His paws are similar to a wolfs, just with pitbull markings.  He has a narrow chest and big charactaristic wolf ears.  His tail has become more fluffy lately, and he carries it in a raised s shape almost, which is exaggerated when he is interested in something.  He has become much more rebellious, one would say.  John and I have both said he was a much better behaved puppy than an adult dog.  My theory is he is in his teenager phase, and he has a really hard time listening to his parents in this time.  You can tell he knows a lot of he things he does, like running off or breaking into the compost pile, are things he knows he's not supposed to do.  He gets a certain face on that makes him look a lot like a wolf....with a pitbull shaped noggin.

He's all in all a great dog, and I wanted to share with the world that today is his first birthday.  Thanks to dabs and despite all odds, he's made it to this point.  We expect smooth sailing from here till old age, which hopefully is a long ways away.  If you'd like to send Rebel something for his birthday, here's his bitcoin address... 14AuZjdd2hTurLbMFB4cS7zvLqFstwSLY8
