Soi Dog Foundation receives British Royal Award

The Soi Dog Foundation is one of the oldest and largest animal welfare organizations in Thailand as well as the rest of South East Asia. Co-founder and President of the organization, John Dalley, has worked tirelessly for many years to aid the homeless animal population in Thailand and also has on multiple ocassions pressured governments of neighboring countries as well as Thailand to change their stance on treatment of stray animals as well as curb the dog meat trade in both China and Vietnam. He is a bit of a legend in our circles and we are so happy and proud that he has been given this award.

Published on October 10th, John was named along various celebrities, medical professionals, educators and others and it is quite an honor to be named in the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire awards that happen every year on the Queen Elizabeth II birthday - which I sadly was unaware was even on the 10th of October until this award was announded.

The Soi Dog Foundation has been around for 17 years and John Dalley has received many awards over the years for his work with dogs and cats in a similar fashion to our own operation but just much much larger.

A true animal lover and all around great guy, John and his late wife Gill are not strangers to being in the public eye and have the respect and admiration of people and animals all around Asia. Gill's wife was actually the first non-Asian by birth to be declared "Asian of the Year" in the Channel News Asia awards which happen annually.

Krabi Animal Welfare is an extremely small operation in comparison, but this isn't a competition, we are all in this for the same reason: Our mutual love and respect for animals and a joined interest in helping as many of them as we can.

The Soi Dog Foundation has competed nearly half a million sterilizations in the 17 years they have been operating and they have made great progress in controlling the animal populations all over Thailand, especially in Phuket, where Mr. Dalley calls home.

While I have never actually met John or his late wife, I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and join together with everyone else in congratulating him on this truly prestigious award.
