Another cat injury taken care of by a kind tourist
WARNING: The images in this post might be disturbing to some viewers. It is not our intention to gross anyone out or even shock and awe anyone into attention. If open wounds are something that is going to "rattle you," this would be a good time to turn back
At least the story has a happy ending
this is the "after" shot, for the sake of putting the graphic images a bit further down
As I have mentioned on multiple occasions, we simply do not have the funding to take care of these situations unless someone steps up and offers to pay for it themselves. We are able to get the care for far less than the average person can because the lovely people at Bangkok Krabi Animal hospital, a place that doesn't even have a website but is by far the best veterinarian in Krabi, donates their time to us and provides all medication and surgical materials at cost.
Therefore, we highly recommend them for all vet needs if you happen to be in Krabi.
The tourist, who wished to remain anonymous, donated the tiny bit of money for the surgical procedure to fix the injury that saw this cat's ear nearly removed from its head. This would have almost certainly become infected and filled with parasites which would result in the eventual painful death of this lovely creature.
The procedure itself isn't really even terribly complicated or expensive it just requires the cat to be placated while the wound is cleaned and then sewn up. This involved a sedative as you might expect. After a bunch of stitches and an overall procedure that took only 20 minutes or so, this guy was all sewn up and we looked after him for a few days before releasing him back into his home turf in Klong Muang (another beach area of Krabi.)
Since we can't be all-knowing about the state of the injured homeless animals in the region, we are delighted when people point them out to us so that we can intervene before the injury becomes more problematic.
You can see that he recovered very nicely in the last shot. It is actually quite lucky that we got to him when we did because due to the intense heat and humidity, wounds like this become infected very quickly on cats if they can not reach the wound to clean it.
