A close call, she wouldn't have made it much longer

While you can expect street dogs in Thailand to normally have very bad skin and coat conditions it is actually quite rare that we run into a case that is the bad. The level of infection and infestation that this poor girl was facing was likely to take her life in the not-so-distant future.

Thankfully we found her and even though it was very difficult to accomplish we were able to coax her into a kennel to transport her to our facilitates

She is extremely nervous and unwilling to trust any of us which suggests that shehas had a lifetime of abuse as well as neglect. The sad reality of these street animals is that the worse looking they are, the LESS likely they are to receive any sort of compassion from the community. Puppies will get taken in and then discarded once the family comes to realize that puppies can actually be a pain if you are not prepared to train them. They end up on the streets and while I have no idea if this is the case here, it is a likely scenario that we see time and time again.

She has received her first wave of injections and vaccinations and after just a little while we already can see some hair regrowth and a drop in itchiness.

She is going to have to stay with us long enough until the veterinarians let us know that she is fully recovered. She will then be sterilized before being reintroduced to the streets - which might sound a bit heartless on our part but as I have mentioned many times in the past, we simply do not have the space and money to take on all the boarders that we would prefer to. Perhaps once one of us wins the lottery we will just take in all the dogs in the region - a personal dream of mine actually.

In the meantime this nervous little girl is starting to warm up to us (probably because of the food) and hopefully will be a little more trusting of humans by the time she leaves here. We can not give her a permanent home, but hopefully her quality of life will be dramatically improved after she returns to the outside world.
