Terrapins are semi-aquatic freshwater turtles that bask on land throughout the day.
Michael and his mother Denise have fallen in love with these creatures and they aren't afraid to go to great lengths to help one in need.
They use their home as a sanctuary, housing abandoned turtles and often nursing them back to health.
I've often heard that turtles have a bad reputation because they're somewhat feisty, but according to Butcher, they are docile creatures.
At least the one's in his care.
Even though they have over a thousand turtles, the only places you won't come across one in their home is the kitchen and bathroom.
According to Michael, a good portion of the turtles brought in do not make it because they're in such poor condition. His dream is to build a federation of turtle sanctuaries across Britain.
