People are their own worst enemy at times right? In this information-loaded world it's surprising how little information (valuable information) people have or retain..

That's a great point sir galenkp! Like if disaster strikes is anyone prepared or would know what to do to survive? Maybe 5%?

Yep, maybe 5%. I'm part way through a post about that now, in respect of the fires here.

Oh, very interesting. I just heard a report tonight about more people killed from the fires, terrible situation.

Hundreds of houses destroyed since new year's day and some 1500 since the fire season began a month ago. A tragic start to the summer with months if extreme weather to come. More deaths, more loss of property, livestock and infrastructure. Pretty bad situation.

How close is that to Adelaide? Are you guys getting all that smoke?

It's hundreds of kilometres away from here, New South Wales and Victoria. If you google map Adelaide and get directions to Bairnsdale, Victoria it will demonstrate it. No smoke from there here in Adelaide, but the Adelaide Hills are on fire still and Kangaroo Island has been burning for several days too. We have had smoke enshrouding the city on and off for two weeks.

This fire situation is at a very critical stage and will have long-reaching implications for a long time..

Interestingly, parts of the Victorian fire areas are our ski fields, the Victorian High Country and into New South Wales. It shows the extremes of this country.

It's totally amazing sir galenkp, the diversity of geography and topography. So true about the long term consequences. So much destruction in land, buildings, and wildlife.
