Eel Fish

Eel was very slippery and barely able to catch with empty hands. In the rainy season, I can get eel easily in a small swamp that was in front of my house.

There are 3 types of eels that live in the waters of Indonesia:

1. Field Eels
   Monopterus Albus Zuieuw or more familiar called field eels was one of the eel species found in many fields as a habitat of its life. Physically Fields eels have bright skin color and small eyes. Field Eels will prefer and survive in water a lot of mud. This type of eel many found in the island of Java, Madura, and Bali. Aceh people do not want to eat field eels because there is an opinion of religious shari'ah that the eel pads can not be eaten or also known as linong.

2. Swamp Eels
   If field eels prefer to live on a muddy place then it was different from a swamp eel (synbranchus bengalensis Mcclell). Swamp eel was a type of eel that lives in a place that contains a lot of water and a bit muddy. Therefore swamp eel has a body that is more slender and longer than field eels. Its skin color is darker and has bigger eyes, bigger size compared to field eel. Swamp eel was more resilient to the water environment with less mud.

3. River Eels
   Macrotema caligans cant or known by river eels by the people of Aceh and Indonesia, usually live in the mouth of the river. This eel has a more rounded head, more pointed teeth, more visible gill respiratory system, more gill folds, sand-dotted skin tones, and a wider tail fin like eel fin. The growth of river eel was faster compared to field eels and swamp eels. When compared with 2 other types of eels, adult river eels have the largest size.

The Benefits of Eels.

Eels have a good nutritional content for the health of the body. The content of protein substances in the eel was very high therefore they were good to be consumed by children.

Iron content can prevent anemia, phosphorus helps bone, vitamin A content helps the growth of vision, then vitamin B in eel is also good for brain.
