Choosing The Right Dog Name

in #animals7 years ago

If you're planning on adding a new dog to your family, youll need to come up with a name. Its important to take your time and choose the name for your dog. After all, this is something youll be calling your dog for years to come. So how do you choose the right dog name? Keep reading and well reveal the secrets to finding the perfect name for your dog.

Naming a puppy might be a little bit more difficult than naming a full-grown dog. You wont know what they will look like as an adult, so its hard to name them based on physical appearance. Instead, youll have to name your puppy based on other criteria, such as their gender. There are plenty of great dog names for boys and girls, and doing a simple Google search will yield thousands of names to choose from.

If you want to use a bit more creativity in the naming process, try to find a name thats associated or tied to their breed. If you have a Chihuahua, you could name them something that sounds small, like Tinkerbell or Bitty. On the other hand, if you have a big dog, you could name them something like Thor. You really just have to use your imagination and try to think of a name thats suitable for their breed.

Many owners choose their dog's name simply by basing it on their personality. Ever heard of a dog called Bruiser? Its one of the most popular dog names because owners like to name their dogs based on personality. Of course there are probably hundreds of dogs named Bruiser out there who wouldnt hurt a fly, but thats the great thing about naming a dog; you can name them whatever you want.

Another all-too-common dog name we hear is Princess. This name is sort of unofficially reserved for spoiled female dogs, so if your canine fits this criteria, then you should consider it as a name. You dont have to use Princess, though, just remember the philosophy of naming based on their personality. Owners love to spoil their Chihuahuas and what better way to do so than by letting the world know they are named Princess.

Short people names also make excellent dog names. Now I dont mean physically-short people; I mean names that have less than 6 words to them, such as Jack, Max and Bruno. These are easy to say and your dog will have no problem catching on to what their name is.

When saying your dog's name, its important to do so in a clear and firm manner so they can understand it. They may not fully understand their name during the first few weeks, but after two or three months, they should have no problem recognizing their name called. Also, when you choose a name, stick with it. Dont go around calling your dog 2 or 3 different names, as this will only confuse them into not knowing what their name is. Stick with one name and be consistent in how you say it.

Choosing a dog name is an exciting experience but it shouldn't be a difficult one. If you are running short on ideas, you can find a comprehensive list of dog names at Dog Named to aid you in your search for the perfect name.
