The Laughing Kookaburra.
If you haven't heard a Kookaburra laugh, then you are in for a treat. It is one of the most unique bird-calls that you will ever hear.
The Kookaburra is native to Eastern Australia and is actually part of the Kingfisher family. It is the largest of the predatory Kingfishers and will hunt small mammals, mice and lizards. I photographed this beautiful specimen at my uncle's property in Western Queensland. They are quite common and it is nice to see them perched in trees around the garden. They are brave and have an inquisitive nature. Have a listen to one laughing.
The Kookaburra in Aboriginal Folklore:

One Aboriginal legend explains the that the reason for the Kookaburra's raucous laughter in the morning is because it is a signal to the sky-people to start the day. This is done by lighting up the great fire that illuminates and warms the Earth.
The Kookaburra is just one of the many unique and interesting animals that are native to Australia, and I hope to share many more with you on steemit.

My favourite bird :) I saw one in Athens zoom and i am in love with it ever since:)
I'd say they are probably my favourite bird too. My great Aunt lived in the middle of Sydney and every day the same 5 or 6 Kookaburras would land on her windowsill, she knew each individual one by its personality.
Amazing upvoted and followed.
thanks :) I'm following you know also.
You're welcome.
That's a great picture.
Thanks, I really like this one. I've got other pictures of Kookaburras but none look as majestic as this.
