Adult male wombat has come into the shelter Vlog #2

So 4 days ago an adult male wombat who had been hit by a car came in. We didn't have high hopes for him as he was very out of it. Hoping it's just shock we set him up nice and warm and left him to rest for the night. The next day he was plenty active, moving around his cot and trying to dig in the tunnel. Problem was he couldn't stand, couldn't walk, kept falling over etc.
We took him off to the vet for some x-rays which turned out to be both good and bad news. No broken bones! but that means his issues standing and walking may be neurological. Permanent brain damage is our worst fear for him. Over the last few days he has been improving greatly, he was given some vitamin C, cod liver oil and antibiotic injections to help him recover and at this point since he has been improving we think he may just have an epic concussion. I mean if you get hit by a 2 tonne vehicle at 80 km/h its bound to give you a cracking headache :/.

We're going to give him a week and hope he has improved enough to either find a safe home for him or re evaluate when he may be able to be re-released. If he has brain damage that isn't too severe and allows him to live pain free we will find a carer that is happy to have him live on the property or in their home. If he can't eat on his own or he will be in constant pain we will unfortunately have to euthanize him.

In this video he's not asleep but he is resting, it's daytime and he wouldn't be very active anyway but more so for this guy. If he was healthy he would probably growl and grunt and possibly charge or bite me so it isn't often you get this close to an adult.

We have 52 animals here not including the rescue animals. They range from baby wombats to salt-water crocodiles, green tree frogs to emus and plenty more.
