The chemicals we use every day tried on mice: Look what happened

in #animals3 years ago

An international research group from the Technical University of Denmark carried out an interesting experiment on pregnant mice. Within the scope of the research, a mixture of 13 differen chemicals, which we humans use frequently in our daily lives, was applied on pregnant mice.

As a result of the experiment, it was noticed that male mice born from pregnant mice exposed to a cocktail of chemicals found in plastic products, such as flatates and bisphenol (BPA), showed feminine characteristics. On the other hand, while BPA is a cnesoenstrogen that acts like estrogen and has hormone-like properties; Also known as *"plasticizer", phthalates are used in many personal care products, from vinyl flooring to grease and soap, shampoos and hairsprays.

In a statement to Sweden's national broadcaster SVT, "Sofie Christiansen, one of the members of the reasearch team, said, "We did not see a significant effect when we gave a substance in one go. However, when we combined several substances, we encountered serious hormonal disorders in young mice"said. Christiansen also pointed out that the nipples that normally only females have in experiments were clearly visible in males as well.

It was stated that whether or not these substances affect people, or if they do, to what extent it cannot be decided definitively just by looking at the results of this research.
