Yeah I have, you should claim them from your wallet. It will boost your steem power and when you upvote on your posts it's worth more, even on your own :)

Nah its not against the rules. When you make a post you can tick the upvote post box and it will automatically upvote when you submit.
Check out the steemit chat on the top right corner menu and you'll get lots of help from other users. Find a topic you're interested in and start sharing your post with them and get tips :D That way you can also communicate with the people who are upvoting your post and commenting.
