Africa #20: Our last adventure: A safari in Botswana (13 photos)

Our last stop of this roadtrip started with an awful night. We wanted to cross the border from Zambia to Botswana in the afternoon and the dude from our homestay told us it would still be open. Perfect, booked a hostel in Kasane, got ourselves a driver and headed towards the border, where he dropped us off. Soon we realized: The border was already closed and we were stranded in a small border town in Zambia, well f***!

We looked for hostels or homestays, but they were all fully booked, except for one (really nasty) motel. This lead us to the next problem: We didn’t had any cash, the only ATM in town wasn’t working (for both our credit cards) and it turned dark in the meanwhile. Well f*** again!
We thought we were going to be homeless for sure. Desperately we bargained with the guy from the nasty motel to accept our last euros, so he took us to a guy, who took us to some other guy, who was able to change the euros. For God’s sake!

We stayed the night at the shitty motel and crossed the border to Botswana as soon as possible the next morning.

With our very last Zambian Kwachas we paid for the ferry across the river and a driver to the town of Kasane.

What a relief. After a breakfast and an ATM we decided to go for one last safari. There are tour companies all over Kasane who offer cheap game drives for about 20$. Here are the pictures of ours:

After this last wonderful experience we took a night bus to Gaborone, where we stayed for one last night. There is nothing much to see or do there. The next day we had a bus to Jo’Burg, where a plane took us back to Germany.
