Flamingo Split

flamingo_guard.jpg

I shot these flamingos on the island Kos, Greece, early in the morning when they are gathering together for their morning aerobics session… I tried to photograph a pink one but obviously they are very shy and well-guarded by these brown aggressive bodyguards that constantly put themselves between me and the pinkies…
In the back left you can see one who is warming up and almost ready to perform a perfect split…

I didn't know there are brown flamingos! Feel myself a wictim of stereotypes... )

hahaha...
Actually it's their natural colour. They turn pink depending on the amount of shrimp they have for dinner... and this is true, you can check it out...

I think i'll check it out too )))

Yes, that is true! Most of the ones we see in the zoos are pink because they feed them shrimp!

Great that you caught some brown flamingo! So there was a pink one in their midst? Must have escaped from the zoo! Lol! There are a few wild ones in the Florida Everglades.

The most were brown... think it depends on the season also. Where I shot this picture was a kind of salt water lake... but in summer it's more a dry lake, so not a lot of shrimps :-)

Yes, I expect location and the season would have a lot to do with it. 😊 I have not seen them in the wild.

beautiful flamingos !
