Changuu Island - Giant Tortoises - #animalphotography

Hello everyone,
today I'd like to present one of the pictures I've taken on Changuu Island also known as Prison Island ( or Quarantain Island).
The Island acted as as a prison for slaves since ~1860s - in 1893 it was bought by a British Prime Minister of Zanzibar ( as Brits were ruling Tanzania at this time and slavery was abolished in 1890 ) . Since then the island was a hospital for Yellow Fever patients and later (1919) became a home for Giant Tortoises. Tortoises were a gift from British governor of Seychelles that "sent" them there in 1919.
Today the island acts as a Turtle Sanctuary and partly as a privately owned hotel .
