Common wall lizard (Podarcis muralis)

During the warm months, these mini-dragons can be spotted sunbathing on nearly any rock and wall in rural areas in Switzerland on the north side of the Alps. But as soon as a curious photographer approaches, they disappear into a nearby crack. This picture must be one of the best I’ve ever taken of the species. It even seems to smile.

What you cannot see in the photo: There's a lake just in front of that rock. So he's really just lying in the sun at the beach 😎
