Killdeer
I went back to the park where I had found the Killdeer family in hopes to spot them again. (Last week) Sure enough, they were around, though it was busier at the park and they were more secretive. Here is a photo of one of the babies with a parent in the upper-left corner.
Killdeer can easily be identified from other plover species by the two black stripes across their chest. Despite their distinctive markings, they can be difficult to spot in almost any environment. I usually hear them before I see them as they can be VERY loud lol. They like to hang out in short fields (such as large lawns) as well as along shorelines.
Killdeer will act injured to lead predators away from their nest. They will hold out one wing and wander away, sounding a distress call. They will stay far enough away from the predator to stay safe, but close enough to try to keep its attention.
A closer look

Want to have your post on the map too?
Here is a photo I took last week of a Killdeer doing its broken wing routine to lead me away from its young. Good post. Thanks.
