Carpintero real - Colaptes melanochloros 4R - Green Barred Woodpecker

It is a very abundant bird and easy to observe in the rural area of Mar del Plata, Argentina. It lives in diverse environments such as groves, mountains, forests, rural areas and jungles. It nests and resides in the northern half of the country.
Its nest does it in hollows that it produces with its beak on the trunks of trees.
It feeds on larvae and insects that it traps under the bark of the trees, also it is usually seen on the grass and short grasses in the field in search of insects.

• *Es un ave muy abundante y facil de observar en la zona rural de Mar del Plata, Argentina. Habita en diversos ambientes como arboledas, montes, bosques, áreas rurales y selvas. Nidifica y reside en la mitad norte del país.
  Su nido lo hace en huecos que el produce con su pico sobre los troncos de árboles.
  Se alimenta de larvas e insectos que atrapa debajo de la corteza de los árboles, también suele vérselos sobre la hierba y pastos cortos en el campo en busca de insectos. *
