Family of lizards. / Семейка ящериц. #animalphotography

In nature I do not meet so many animals, and even fewer of whom you can approach closely and consider.
Some of those who, despite fearfulness, sometimes relax and let you get closer - these are lizards. I photographed this family once in the summer at my friend's dacha.

В природе у нас я встречаю не так уж много животных, ещё меньше тех, к кому удаётся приблизиться и рассмотреть.
Одни из тех, кто, несмотря на пугливость, иногда расслабляются и подпускают поближе – это ящерицы. Эту семейку я сфотографировала однажды летом на даче у моей подруги.

These are viviparous lizards (Zootoca vivipara). They are quite common in the Moscow region. At the dacha we see them very often. In sunny weather, they like to crawl out and bask on a log covered with ruberoid. And my friend and I like to watch them. There I photographed them.
This is a strategically convenient place for lizards. There is a barrel with water for irrigation, and water is important for viviparous lizards. There is a log on which the sun shines most of the day, there are cracks in which small lizards easily hide under the house.
Usually one, well, two lizards comes out. The case fixed in the frame is a rarity. Actually, only once, and saw that at once three, and even gathered in a pile, basking in the sun.
They are not at all tame, but, apparently, are used to the fact that people do not offend them. If you approach them very smoothly, without making sudden movements, then the lizards allow themselves to be examined and photographed. But, if they are frightened, then disappear almost instantly, the eye does not even have time to fix the movement. They were, and now there is no.
One of the unusual abilities of lizards, about which, probably, everyone has heard - to drop the tail when is a serious danger. If you grab her by the tail and the animal can not escape, the lizard will run away, leaving a twitching tail in your hands. I did not do that. Just read about it. But the most interesting is that a lizard that has lost its tail gradually grows a new one.
You can see in the photo that one of the lizards, the one in the middle, has a different tail, it is short, dark and different in texture. Apparently, she had to part with her original organ. And now a new one has almost grown up.
Viviparous lizards are not very large. Usually, adults are about 15-18 cm. Two-thirds of them fall on the tail.
Viviparous lizards differ from most lizards in that they do not lay eggs, but give birth to already living cubs. A transparent egg shell surrounds them, but the cubs are immediately released. At first I thought it was mother with children. But the photo was taken on July 22nd. And I read that they multiply in late July-August. Perhaps it's a female and two males? Females should be larger. But I'm not an expert, I'm not sure. Perhaps, those that are smaller, are, after all, young. They write that young individuals are darker. And, probably, all of them recently appeared, but differ on a floor. Viviparous lizards do not really care about their offspring and kids are forced to deal with this life on their own. Therefore, young lizards for some time to stick together.
In winter viviparous lizards are experiencing, hiding into shelter under the ground. There they fall into a hibernation. And in the spring they wake up and, as it is warmed up, become active.
My friend does not offend these inhabitants of her garden. They are harmless for people and very useful for gardens, as they feed on insects, slugs and the like.
This picture I made a long time ago, in 2012. But every time I come to visit a dacha to a friend, on this log you can lie in wait for lizards.

Это живородящие ящерицы (Zootoca vivipara). В Подмосковье они довольно распространены. На даче мы их видим очень часто. В солнечную погоду они любят выползать и греться на брёвнышке, застеленном рубероидом. А мы с подругой любим за ними наблюдать. Там я их и сфотографировала.
Это стратегически удобное место для ящериц. Там рядом стоит бочка с водой для полива, а живородящим ящерицам важна вода. Лежит бревно, на которое большую часть дня светит солнце, есть щели, в которые маленькие ящерийы легко прячутся под дом.
Обычно выходит одна, ну, две ящерки. Зафиксированный в кадре случай – большая редкость. Собственно, только один раз и увидела, чтобы сразу три, да ещё собравшись в кучку, грелись на солнышке.
Они совсем не ручные, но, видимо, привыкли, что люди их не обижают. Если приближаться к ним очень плавно, не делая резких движений, то ящерицы позволяют себя рассмотреть и сфотографировать. Но, если они испугались, то исчезают практически мгновенно, глаз не успевает даже зафиксировать движение. Вот были, и вот нету.
Одна из необычных способностей ящериц, о которой, наверное, все слышали – отбрасывание хвоста при серьёзной опасности. Если ухватить её за хвост, то при невозможности вырваться, ящерица убежит, оставив у вас в руках дёргающийся хвост. Я так не делала. Только читала про это. Но самое интересное: ящерица, потерявшая хвост, постепенно отращивает новый.
Вы можете увидеть на фотографии, что у одной из ящериц, той, что посередине, хвост отличается, он короткий, тёмный и другой по фактуре. Видимо, ей пришлось расстаться с изначальным своим органом. А сейчас уже почти вырос новый.
Живородящие ящерицы не очень большие. Обычно, взрослые около 15-18 см. Две трети из них приходятся на хвост.
Живородящие ящерицы отличаются от большинства ящериц тем, что не откладывают яйца, а рожают уже живых детёнышей. Прозрачная яйцевая оболчка окутывает их, но детёныши сразу же освобождаются. Сначала я подумала, что это мамаша с детьми. Но фотография сделана 22 июля. А я прочла, что размножаются они в конце июля-августе. Возможно, это самка и два самца? Самки должны быть крупнее. Но я не специалист, не уверена. Возможно, те, что поменьше, это, всё-таки, молодняк. Пишут, что молодые особи более тёмные. А, возможно, все они недавно появились, но отличаются по полу. Живородящие ящерицы на самом деле не проявляют заботы о своём потомстве и малыши вынуждены самостоятельно разбираться в этой жизни. Поэтому молодые ящерицы какое-то время держаться группами.
Зимуют живородящие ящерицы, забираясь в укрытия под землю. Там они впадают в спячку. А по весне просыпаются и, как следует отогревшись, становятся активными.
Подруга не обижает этих обитателей своего сада. Они безобидны для людей и очень полезны для огородов, так как питаются насекомыми, слизняками и тому подобными существами.
Эту фотографию я сделала довольно давно, в 2012 году. Но каждый раз, когда я приезжаю в гости на дачу к подруге, на этом бревне можно подстеречь ящериц.
