There are many scientists who are trying to understand the origin of the flying ability of animals. However, there was one discovery of a dinosaur the size of a pheasant found in China that caused quite a stir among them.

The species, given the name Serikornis sungei, is reported to have added to the dinosaur lineup, effectively with four wings. However, paleontologists show evidence that Serikornis could not fly. Seeing this, paleontologist Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences in Brussels, Ulysse Lef鑦re commented.

"Serikornis feathers show for the first time the absence of barbules, which are microstructures that allow the feathers to withstand air pressure during wing flapping," he said.

"The feathers had four wings, like most theropod dinosaurs from China, but didn't allow this 'Silky' to take off from the ground or from trees." he explained.

The fossil from Serikornis itself was discovered in 2014 and is 160 million years old, according to a report in the journal The Science of Nature. The fossil is reported to have come from Liaoning Province in northeastern China. Where, the area is famous for preserving the remains of ancient birds or feathered dinosaurs.

In his life, this dinosaur was reported to have been about 1.5 feet long or equivalent to 45 cm which was equipped with small and sharp teeth, the body was covered with fine and thin fur. However, the limbs of these dinosaurs had several other types of feathers, including long pennaceous feathers with a central propeller that were more like the coarse feathers we often see in modern birds.

Seeing this, Thomas R. Hotlz, a paleontologist at the University of Maryland at College Park, said that this discovery adds to our knowledge of the diversity of feathered dinosaurs, who used their feathers for many purposes other than flight.
