Megabat - The great flying fox
As always a great greeting to all those steemians who read me, in this post I’m returning to the theme of rare and impressive animals that you might not know, this time we will be talking about the famous filipino flying fox but don’t worry do not be alarmed imagining an animal like the fox that we usually know with great wings lurking around, I will soon be explaining what this animal is about and where its peculiar name came from.
t is a kind of mega bat but before you panic and think that sometime in your life you can be the victim of a vampire blood suck, relax and let me tell you that this bat only feeds on fruit, what a luck.
As you already saw this species receives the name of its great facial resemblance to foxes, this bat lacks tail, its snout is elongated and pointed compared to common bats and its ears are small that give it its great resemblance to the fox. Because they have big eyes and easily see they lack the ability that usually identifies bats which is the "echo location", which means the ability that bats use to recognize their environment using the echo generated by the sound waves.
This large specimen has reached about forty centimeters and well they know what they say, big animal equal to large wings, when this bat unfolds its wings its wingspan can reach a meter and a half and weigh about 42.3288 pounds .
Located in the tropical jungles of the Philippines and can be found anywhere from areas that are at sea level to the mountainous forests. It is a nocturnal animal and is an important pollinator and seed disperser for the Philippines for this reason it has also been given the name of the "silent sower". Their main food are the figs although they can also eat other types of fruits if these are not available
Unfortunately, as most of the rare and extraordinary species they are in danger of extinction, their main reason is deforestation which has made it disappear completely from many small islands, we can also mention that its commercial hunting is undue for its meat, so the municipal administration The Philippines has organized a campaign to try to save this species.
