"Acehnese : Denden Khung" - Katydid, unique insect risen once in 17 years
Hello dear friends .. Today I want to share and write about cicadas, in Aceh we usually call to "Denden Khung". Kitydid are unique insects that get up once in 17 years. This characteristic can not be owned by others. But there are still many people who do not know about this one animal.
Uniqueness Katydid
Katydid is one of the members of the sub order Cicadomorpha which is a term for all kinds of insects. Insect cicada wake up every 17 years to have a lot of the body which can emit a loud noise at some time in the trees. If we catch him and hit his head then he will make a sound like a siren. I remember, used to be a lot of boys in my village who play with these animals and they will be happy and laugh when the animals were put out his voice.
These insects have wings and eyes facet invisibility where located far away with his head. These animals have a physique like a large fly, although there is a small-sized katydid. Typically, katydid live in regions where the climate is moderate or tropical. This insect has a larger size as well as their acoustic outside of his body that serves as a source of sound in the bottom of the wing. This makes it easy to distinguish katydid with animals other insects. Especially with insect traits cicadas out only once every 17 years.
When the rainy season, these animals will sound louder. Especially if they are already at the stage of adulthood, they will come out from under the ground to perform marriages. After doing the mating, the female locust will die after laying their eggs on the ground. Across the world, there are about 3,000 species of cicadas although many of them are yet to be found. These animals are grouped into two families (familia), namely Tettigarctidae and Cicacide. There are several types of this family now extinct in the area Tasmania and South Australia.
Besides the uniqueness of katydid on the physical characteristics and the many species, this animal still has a distinctive feature, namely the phase of metamorphosis that is interesting to learn. Insect larvae will be for 17 years. After that, he will be an adult for 3 days and then enters the reproductive stage. Unlike other animals, as they do marriage then the cicadas will die. When in the larval stage, they sleep for 17 years. After the completion of that period, they would be out of the nests at night. In marriage, they will emit a loud and noisy sound to attract a partner.
The majority of these insects live alone to get peace by digging the ground as his residence. When the time comes and it gets dark, they will come out of his hiding place to find a partner. However, the amazing thing is with a short life cycle makes them avoid predators would prey on them. Cicadas have a life cycle that is not synchronized with their enemies. This insect has 17 years in the larvae, while their enemies memiiliki two or three years in their life cycle.
However, the question is how these insects can find out if it's dark, because during the 17-year cicadas are in a hidden nest. This is what makes the scientists speculate that the life cycle of cicadas has evolved to avoid the attack of predator ...
