Traditional Horse Carriage is almost lost

One of the races in the city of our lives, the association with the history of Dhaka is the horse carriage or tomtom. History says, at one time the carriage of horses was the main transport vehicle of the zamidars, king-empires, wealthy people and members of the royalty. Over time, known today as Tomtom in Dhaka. Although it was used to provide war supplies in the past. However, this special vehicle was seen in the heart of Dhaka today.

According to past tradition, the marriage of old Dhaka remains unfulfilled without the carriage of horses. Horse carriage is still used in the Dhaka city. Although much less than before. Yet as a part of the past tradition, the carriage of horses is still alive.

In order to highlight the tradition of horse carriage, on January 19, 2008, a statue of Rajshi Bihara was built in front of Hotel Sheraton in Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue on the occasion of 400 years of Dhaka.

There is still more popularity in the horse carriage than many tourists in Dhaka city. In order to taste the royal travel, except for the transport of vehicles, many people still carry the traditional vehicle. Especially in old Dhaka, Suhrawardy Uddan, horse carriage vehicle still seen in the Parliament building area. Although the horses are in weak and diseased day by day.

There are also horses used for wedding carriages, pujas, different day rallies, family shows, cinema shooting and different political activities. At the beginning of the work, the carriage of horses is decorated with various flowers, colored paper and different ribbons.

Due to the development of mechanical civilization, the traditional vehicle is almost lost day by day. Some people of old Dhaka are still trying to maintain this tradition of 400 years of history. We also want to keep the carriage of horses in Dhaka city as a symbol of tradition and nobility.
