Meet my new friend penelope the bearded rescue dragon.

in #animal7 years ago

Got a call the other day from a lady who had taken in a renter, younger lad, about 22 or so.

Got himself a lovely little pet lizard, spent $1000 on her and the tank and everything and then when he moved out decided he didn't feel like taking her with him so he left her. Unfortunately the lady who rented the space isn't a huge fan of reptiles so she gave us a call and asked if we could take her in.

Welcome Penelope (old name not our choice lol)

I know absolutely nothing about her haha, but she is very relaxed little thing, she laid comfortably on my lap and chest as i drove her home and has napped in her pillowcase since. She doesn't mind being handled and she has a slightly dark green tinge to her back. Hard to see as my camera is pre shit lol.

It's hard to see because of yea my crappy laptop camera but she is a Bearded dragon, they look kinda scary and grumpy because of their "spikes" but they're actually quite soft to the touch. deceptive defense.
We currently have 2 other bearded dragons, 1 male and 1 female. The male is a bit of a bully so Penelope here might be a good fit for the other female as friends.

She's currently asleep on my chest but I'll feed her some crickets and fruit soon. She would usually require a tank with a heat lamp or blanket but as its about 30 degrees here at the moment its the perfect temperature for her, ill watch overnight but because reptiles have no way to cool them self down or heat themselves up they're very sensitive to changes in the weather. Without sun or heat to warm their blood they are unable to hunt and eat properly and become lethargic, eventually without heat they can die.
Becoming too hot is just as much of an issue, anything getting over 35-38 degrees c is getting pretty hot for something that cant pant or sweat and who's body naturally retains the heat around it.

Her claws are designed perfectly for climbing and hanging onto branches, long claws on each foot allow her to hold onto my shirt as I walk around the house so we can bond. I don't believe scientifically reptiles have any sort of emotion but maybe she sad she got dumped :(

Anyway as of 2 days from now ill be surrounded by all the animals so I'll introduce a new one every day or two and tell yall about it.

For now if you like what i post please upvote follow and resteem

Ergh seriously who does that. That's one of the handful of things that nudges me gently towards violence first think about possible questions later maybe. Good thing you're around :)

All the animals sounds like fun :D

Yea I hate it, especially when the animal isnt like a nutcase or something, like some sweet lil thing, its not like they're hard to look after

I'll take your word on that, have never done reptiles :) Do you need to have a license for them? I don't know if we need a license for lizards but we do for snakes.

goatsig

Haha ... BigD bro,
I could not even do that ... lol ... could she bite or something ??

she could but I doubt she would, they're pretty docile and not venomous or dangerous to us at all. might hurt a little and could get infected but otherwise pre safe.
They enjoy your body heat

Ah, she looked venomous to me ...It great that you love animals thou, they are better than humans :)

Cannot believe someone would just leave the animal behind :/. My friend has one and they are so cool. Its name is gertrude lol

hahaha old lady name. love it

Awwwww she's so sweet! Can't believe someone would just abandon their pet like that- people are so terrible sometimes.
