[Show Me The Angpao] Chinese New Year Ang Pao

Why are we talking about "Ang Pao" at this point of time? Yeah, it is because Chinese New Year is coming very very soon. For those who are not very familiar with the term "Ang Pao", it is actually referring to the red packets that are handed by married couples to the singles regardless of age and genders during Chinese New Year as monetary gift. Other than Chinese New Year, it is also given out during Weddings, Birthdays, means of gratitude and even good luck charm for someone who is going for a travel.

While we are at this, let's talk about some of the cultural and beliefs behind "Ang Pao":

Red colour is used because it symbolizes Good Luck, ONGG ahhh... It is also in the belief that the colour can ward off evils.
Even digit amount of money should be included in the packet as Odd numbers are usually believed to be related to funerals.
Exception for some numbers. 9 brings the meaning of longevity while 4 brings the meaning of death. So it's alright to put the amount of 9 and not 4 in the packet .
New notes are given in the packets as they symbolizes the New Beginning.
Never open any received "Ang Pao" straightaway or in front of the giver as it is considered rude.

Well, these are the so called beliefs and cultures regarding "Ang Pao" centering my life. Of course, at different places and with different people, the belief and culture can differ as well.

So when someone is giving us an "Ang Pao", we should receive it happily with a big smile😁 lots of gratitude🤗 too. Talk about gratitude, yesterday I have already received some amount of "Ang Pao" even before the big event and I am so happy about it.

In actual, those are the "Ang Paos" from two years ago, where I asked my mum to help safekeeping it for a while. Then, we forgot about the matter till yesterday where she suddenly found it in one of her closet. Thanks MUM! and that's also why we should clean and tidy our house before Chinese New Year as we might find some missing valuables (we still need to do it occasionally to keep our house clean).
