Amazing Nature Contest #05 : Nature Spirit, New Year Special.

This is my entry for #amazingnature created by @adalger. This special tag of ‘Nature Spirit’ seems to require deep thoughts and some psychic investigation as to the kinds of spirits which are residing in Nature! To me, ‘spirit’ means something or a being who is living, either visible or invisible! Unfortunately I could not get in touch with all Nature Spirits as I have moderate bandwidth and medium speed of internet communication. Alas, the Water Spirit of the Mae Khong River is calling out to me to recognise her existence lest people would take Her for granted again and again.

This river which acts as a natural border between Thailand and Laos for 800 kilometers has its origin in the high plateau of Tibet. So, this river is quite sacred as the water in this river has the holy vibrations of melted glacier and rain. This river travels through five countries: China, Burma, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. It is 4900 kilometers in length. The first entrance of this river into Thailand is at the famous Golden Triangle in Chiengrai. Then it travels to Loei, Nongkhai, Bueng Karn, Nakorn Panom, Mukdaharn, Amnath Jaroeng and Ubonrachathani; then it goes into Cambodia and exits to the sea in Vietnam. All the provinces along this river have local stories about the river snakes or Nagas who live in the secret caves under the river. These legendary tales would require a separate post, perhaps later.

The geographical facts which we learned at school and read later on do not include the spiritual and mystical side of this great river; which is the tenth longest river in the world. Water is unique in many ways, to the point that I consider water as having magical power and spirits. Emoto’s book on ‘ the Hidden Message in Water’ gave very valuable insights into hidden secrets of water Source. I think that older generations of Siamese or Thai people had subconsciously known about the magic in water. Older people had been using water in sacred ceremonies such as holy water for sprinkling on troops, in blessing marrying couples, in medicine and healing, including in religious ceremonies and superstitious applications.

The importance of water can never be over estimated; without water people and all living beings big or small cannot survive. Human body is made up with seventy percent of water. And as everything vibrates at different frequencies, resonance between water in the river and one’s body becomes a mysterious relationship to me. I would say I could feel the river’ spirit. It is as if we have become good friends who depend upon each other. So, I have great respect for water and rivers, especially old rivers who have very magnanimous personalities.

So, whenever I use water to wash my hands or during my shower, I would use water with respect and the feeling of gratitude. When I go for me evening walk by the river, I would be reminded of how lucky I am to be using running water of which is partly water from the mountains in Tibet. No wonder, I always feel so good after my shower. The vibes in the water are very soft and gentle but full of cleansing energy.

In Thai culture we call a river ‘Mae Nam’ which means ‘mother river’. Mae means mother; so older generations of Siamese had innate respect and relationship with water and rivers. In the old days, there was no systems of water pipes or running water on demand. People had to spend a lot of effort and energy in finding and transporting water. There were no chemicals or filters to sanitize water either, so people had to be careful in keeping the rivers clean and healthy. Nowadays, most people take water for granted and they pollute rivers with chemicals and rubbish. The water spirit has been hurt and we will have to pay the price in the long term. So, sometimes I apologise to all spirits of water in the river and send them a lot of good vibes to helping healing their injuries. We should be thanking water spirits everywhere in the world and treat water, rivers, ponds, lakes, sea and oceans with respect and gratitude.

เราชอบเดินเล่นริมแม่น้ำในตอนเย็น. เพื่อรอดูและถ่ายรูปพระอาทิตย์ตกดิน และคอยสังเกตสภาพของแม่น้ำด้วย ข้อมูลทางภูมิศาสตร์ที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับแม่น้ำโขง คือแม่น้ำนี้ยาวเป็นอันดับที่สิบของแม่นํ้าในโลก มีความยาว 4,900 กิโลเมตร และมีต้นทางมาจากที่ราบสูงในเทือกเขาทิเบต ไหลผ่านปนะเทศจีน พม่าลาว ไทย เขมรและ ไหลลงสู่ทะเลที่ เวียตนาม แม่นํ้าโขงเป็นเส้นกั้นพรมแดนระหว่างไทยและลาวเป็นความยาวถึง 800กิโลเมตร จุดที่แม่นํ้าโขงมาประจบที่ดินแดนไทย คือที่สามเหลี่ยมทองคำ ที่ติดพรมแดนไทย ลาวและกัมพูชา ฉะนั้นแม่นํ้าโขงจึงมีความสำคัญกับวิถีชีวิตและความเป็นอยู่ของผู้คนจำนวนมากที่อาศัย ตลอดริมแม่น้ำนี้

นํ้ามีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่งต่อมนุษย์ และสิ่งมีขีวิตทั้งหลายบนโลก ร่างกายของเราประกอบด้วยน้ำถึง 70% และถ้าเราขาดน้ำหลายวันเราก็จะรอดยาก คนโบราณเห็นถึงความสำคัญของนํ้ามาเป็นเวลานาน เขาจึงยกย่องให้เรียก แหล่งนํ้าสำคัญที่ช่วยผดุงชีวิตของสรรพสัตว์ทั้งหลาย ว่าแม่นำ้ สมัยก่อนคนมีความสัมพันธ์พึ่งพาแม่นํ้าในการดำรงชีวิต และใช้น้ำและแม่นํ้าด้วยความเคารพ มีการดูแลแหล่งน้ำและใช้น้ำอย่างรู้คุณค่า และยังมีพิธีต่างๆที่เกี่ยวข้องกับนํ้า นำ้ยังมีบทบาทในทางจิตวิญญาณ เช่น น้ำมนต์

นอกจากนี้ยังมีการค้นคว้า และทดลองเกี่ยวกับนํ้ามากมาย โดยเฉพาะผลงาน และหนังสือของ อีโมโต้ ที่แสดงให้เห็นว่าน้ำมีความจำ และเป็นเสมือนสิ่งมีขีวิต เราจึงสามารถสื่อสาร และรับรู้ความเปลี่ยนแปลงของแม่น้ำได้ เราคิดว่าแม่นํ้ามีจิตวิญญาณไม่ต่างจากมนุษย์ มีความรู้สึกและมีความจำ คลื่นความถี่ของแม่นํ้า บางครั้งก็สื่อความสงบ บางครั้งก็สื่อความเศร้า เพราะมนุษย์ทำให้มีสารพิษและขยะในแม่น้ำ คนสมัยนี้ขาดสายใยความสัมพันธ์กับแม่น้ำ ที่คนโบราณเคยมีสายใยนี้. เราก็หสังว่ามันจะไม่สายเกินไป ที่คนสมัยใหม่จะเริ่มมีความเอื้ออาทรต่อสายน้ำและแม่นํ้า ทั้งนี้เพื่อความอยู่รอดของสรรพสัตว์ทั้งหลายบนโลก.
