I grew under a communist regime, in Romania, so I know first-hand socialism is stupid and cannot work. Yet, I'm not at ease when people point a finger at the regime in Venezuela. Undoubtedly, the country would have failed on its own, no question about that, but I'm afraid the US are very much to blame for the total mess that country is in today. Ever since the Cold War, South America has been destroyed by the fight between the US and the USSR/Russia.
Indeed, the US plays a big part in ruining the Venezuelan economy, but that doesn't justify communist policy. And that's also exactly why it's no use engineering society because you are never in control of most factors that influence the economy.
