What I learned from Anarcho-Communists

Extreme Equality VS Extreme Liberty!  I've tried my best to remain non-partial.

Here is the thread where I honestly try to dig into the Anarcho-Communist (ancom) mindset.

Full disclosure: I am an Anarcho-Capitalist (ancap)

It's easy to get wrapped up in the different lingo between the 2 ideas (liberty vs equality).  Hence the difficulty communicating between ancoms and ancaps - which I now clearly see as an irreconcilable principles conflict.

Things we have in common:

• Principled:  Ancaps think liberty is #1.  Ancoms think equality is #1.
• Ancaps think that ancoms are statists.  Ancoms think that ancaps are statists.  Ancaps and ancoms are both right, relative to their frameworks (explained below).
• Ancaps define anarchism as "without rulers", specifically those who infringe on liberty.  Ancoms require violent enforcement as "sometimes" necessary for equality.  Hence ancaps think ancoms are closet statists.
• Ancoms define anarchism as "without rulers", specifically those who impede equality.  This includes landowners and in general people who own places where people can sell their labour, or buy housing.  Ancaps see selling labour as perfectly voluntary and fine.  The ancom sees this as support for hierarchy ( against equality ).  Hence ancoms think ancaps are closet statists.

Some interesting things that differ (an exhaustive list would be long...):

• Ancoms see money as extrinsic motivation, whereas intrinsic motivation (no money) is ideal.
• Ancaps see money as a reward for providing value to your fellow man.
• Ancaps see government as immoral due to the initiation of violence.
• Ancoms see government as immoral since it is a hierarchy.

My advice for myself and others: the next time you encounter an ancap or ancom, remember the differences between the principles before commenting on how stupid their conclusions are.  If you cannot agree on axioms/principles, then you cannot agree with their conclusions.

Ancaps will happily sacrifice equality for liberty.  Ancoms will happily sacrifice liberty for equality.  And everyone is a "statist" to the other side.
