Anarchy & Blockchain Technologies: An alternative perspective

in #anarchy8 years ago (edited)

The word anarchy is been thrown around a lot, especially in the blockchain community. Usually is the same repackaged ideas. We mostly see neo-reactionary posts and comments calling for expired models such some kind of combination between democracy, technology and anarchy. There is an agreement in regards to how "bad" the state and cental control are but that's about it. People still seek some kind of control and order through a utopian system.

This brings us to heart of the problem. People forget that old systems like our beloved democracy came to be precisely because people wanted some kind of control. This is what gave birth to the State. The rule of the masses. Whether or not the masses have representatives is rather irrelevant.

First things first for those new to the concept of anarchy. Anarchy does not mean without rules. It simply means without rulers. Any. Rulers. Even if 51% decides what the 49% does such as with anarcho-X (X= socialism/communism/democracy/technocracy) or whatever else is thrown outhere from sensationalist utopians.

Anarchy simply means each for their own self. Up and foremost anarchy means free association between individuals without any central group deciding what the rest should do. Anarchy means not imposing your will onto others. Anarchy means live and let live. There are no "ethical" problems. What we call ethical is simply how the majority views things. What is ethical in USA its not in China and vice versa. Who is "right"?. Nobody is right or wrong in respect to ethics because ethics are as dynamic as the weather.

The internet by default is anarchic - or at least you can choose to live in a version of it that is. There is an ecosystem of companies and individuals that freely interact without any central ruler moving the strings. Each company operates on its own set of rules. Everyone comes into agreements with other companies through accepting or rejecting individual set of rules. For example Facebook and Steemit might differ completely ideologically but through their own self governed rules they can cooperate (e.g making an account here through facebook). No need for "Internet goverment". Now how about that?

If you have made it this far, you probably have started pondering questions like "What about pedophiles, thieves, crooks...". Thing is there has always been wrongdoers and law surely did not eliminate them or even stop them. Fear and violence only breed fear and violence. The thing with a proven record for eliminating these these kind of problems is technology. Technological innovations are build around social problems and these the problems seize to exist. If someone wants to opt out from those innovations they are free to do so. Different groups develop different solutions. For example in Japan some cars do not start when someone's blood/alchohol level has surpassed a threshold. This makes road checks from the police obsolete. Automation in cars makes road troopers obsolete alltogether. Today every single law that exists it simply reflects lack of efficient technology in that specific area. Every single law is a call for innovation. Blockchain technologies can adress any problem with an efficient anarchic solution.

Blockchain technologies give the opportunity to each and every person to carry their own unique identity and set of rules and join other networks that abide to a dynamic ethical code of behaviour. Think about how we are only allowed to be a citizen of 1 maybe 2 countries while lets say in Facebook you are a member of 100 groups, most of them with conflicting ideologies. Blockchain allows this paradigme to exist, on steroids. Individuals interact through chaotic transcations and somehow order emerges. This is also a characteristic of anarchy.

This brings is to the beauty of the Blockchain. This is why order is only but an illusion whether you have democracy or elaborate blockchain networks. The laws that are considered orderly in USA are disorderly for Syrians. Order is not something you can examine from your perspective. Billions of galaxies collide, trillions of transactions take place in the economy or in your own body just to take a shit. Don't think for a second that we ever lived in an ordely world. Order is an illusion. Chaos is the true nature of things. Learning to live in this chaos holds the solution. Avoiding this realisation through concepts such as "order" only shoves the dust under the carpet. It is vital for innovators to understand the Blockchain paradigme through anarchy. The ideas go hand in hand.

Political revolutions are obsolete. The internet kills politics. Politics is about a group of people wanting to rule over another group of people. Not to mention, politics are violent by default. I would advice enthousiasts of the blockchain community to think twice before "calls for action" with flags and "systems". These things are the root of the problem. That need to raise a symbol, a flag is what created all the problems we are complaining about. New flags won't change that which we try to avoid.

You see something you don't like around you? Code a solution for it. That's the challenge. Verbally trying to convince others not to do something is simply futile and it is never going to work. There are no bad people outhere. Life is chaotic and each and everyone of us can be found in situations that are outside of our control. Every single person on this earth believes they are ethical in respect to their actions. Who we are and what we do are both a result of a series of chaotic events that manifested our present reality.

You want to know how chaotic and anarchic the world is? Consider this; If you wanted to predict the unigue position of all the balls in the first brake of a billiard game you would need some pretty complicated mathematics. You could probably do it. If you wanted to predict the position of the balls after the 2nd play you would need astronomical computations. By the 3rd play you would need to take into consideration the gravitational pull of the players around the table. For about the 10th play you would need to know the given position of every single atom in the known universe to make your calculations. Now imagine how many events take place all around us each and every day. From the stock market to political situations around the world and then think about how ridiculous the idea of order is.

Coding for problems and offering technological solutions is the most empatic thing we can do as human beings. Anarchy can offer true solutions through personal responsibility and individuality. It's only up to us to implement this new way of thinking. Blockchain is the future of everything around us. Make sure your children don't make fun of your archaic approach to it.

Sort:

The problem with relying on technological solutions is that you end up in an arms race of sorts. There are always those that will seek to impose their own values/morals/truths on others, and they will also try to use technology to solve the "problem" of free will.

So, how do you technologically deal with this, without taking away the free will of those that would impose their free will on others?

(I do actually agree with your article, but that is a problem which has been vexing me for decades, and I was wondering if you have any thoughts on it)

States/countries make wars. The history of the world is pretty clear on this. Blockchain technologies go beyond state borders because individuals can belong to many groups (e.g Steemit, SiaCoin, Litecoin, Agoras) and so on and so forth.

The more humanity moves towards the blockchain paradigm the less conflict we will have because people will simply be dilluted into multiple groups of interest, making them unable to fund one side over the other.
