Prepping: A Good Idea for Everyone

in #anarchy7 years ago

I think in some circles people look down on preppers as being fringe lunatics who are overly paranoid, conspiracy theorists etc. I think we all have heard of people that many of us would consider going overboard on prepping. For instance, from what I understand one of my cousins packed up him and his family and moved the outskirts in Idaho and is prepping for the world financial disaster he expects. Who knows, my cousin could very well be right. But for me I think it's important to be prepared but also live life in the now and not obsess about the doomsday scenarios.

What brought this to my mind was this recent article on ctvnews:

http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/phone-services-restored-after-widespread-outages-in-atlantic-canada-1.3533186?autoPlay=true

In eastern Canada many people were down for several hours after a “major service outage” affected internet, TV, wireless and landline phones. It's scary to think that something like this could happen for a large part of the world. Our world is so dependent on the internet etc that I think chaos would start in many part of the world within days if these services were lost for a considerable amount of time.

So my point is that having some preparations is a smart thing to do for everyone. I think having a kit with several days of food, water, and even a little precious metals is a prudent thing to do (I think many would include self defense weapons in this).

Sort:

I've never met a prepper in my life who was paranoid. Paranoia is what happens after a disaster to people who did not adequately prepare for that disaster. Every prepper I've ever met has had a sound peace of mind. That's what preparedness brings, peace of mind. The image of paranoia is due to media spin and Hollywood hype. Even FEMA recommends on Ready.gov that everyone have a 72 hour kit at least.

You're welcome!

Agreed on all fronts. Spare tire, fire extinguisher, car insurance and no one batts an eye. 3 days worth of food and water and everyone gives you the crazy eyes.

Cool post, i agree but i would change several days to several weeks or months!👍🏻

Very true. I was just thinking for the general public everyone should have a few days worth of food/water. Totally agree that a few months is a good idea 🙂
