Misplaced Fear

Many Anti-Anarchy arguments are based in fear. Fear of rampant murder, theft, and assaults without the protection of the angelic state watching over us.

Does the State even stop evil or protect you from the above problems? No, not at all. Police simply arrive after a crime has been committed and take a report of the incident. On the other hand the State is always the most destructive, heinous and murderous organization in any country.

How much of the death, violence, theft and other disgusting actions of the last one hundred plus years can be directly attributed to a Government? All? No. Most? Yes.

In the United States you are about 58 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist.

World War 1 killed almost 7 million civilians and 10 million military personnel.

World War 2 killed more than 60 million.

In 1915 the Turkish Army rounded up and exterminated 1.5 million Armenians.

Pol Pot starved, beat, tortured, etc. over 2 million people to death.

Nazi Germany, Japanese Internment Camps, Soviet Gulags.

The U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on cities full of people.

Genocides, drafting unwilling combatants to fight wars they don’t believe in, killing political dissidents.

Allied forces firebombing German cities for three years.

“Enhanced interrogation.” See torture in the dictionary.

Indefinite detention without trial.

And on and on and on and on and on and on.

Will the occasional bad person do harm? Yes, but perpetuating the existence of the government is a guarantee that bad people will do harm on a magnitude far greater than any single person or small group of people could even come close to. Has a private citizen ever done horrible things to his fellow man? Yes, but without the apparatus of the State the scale is incredibly smaller.

Why should fear direct you to a mindset of trusting government with your protection when it’s very clear that the government is who you need protection from. Without a large group of people claiming authority to take these actions for the greater good or whatever their made up excuse of the day is, the above type of atrocities and many others like them simply aren’t possible.
