Fear As Guidance

The only justification people use for having a government are all rooted in fear - not facts, logic or reason.

For example:

      Without government police forces chaos would reign. Murder, theft and other crimes would be 
       widespread and unstoppable.

      Without government who would keep us safe from terrorists or foreign invaders? (Where do I 
      even begin with this one?)

      Without government corporate monopolies would emerge and control all industry.

      Without government people and companies would destroy the environment and kill off animals 
      to extinction. Chemicals would be dumped into drinking water and any knuckle head with a gun 
      would be running around killing every living thing he stumbled across. Why? Because.

      Without government who would build the roads? Yes, this one is way more laughable then the 
      above arguments, but I've had co-workers ask me this while I was explaining my beliefs. This argument 
      may not be totally fear based. It's mostly an illogically thought due to ignorance or total unwillingness 
      to think through the question for a moment or two.

Most Anarchists main argument against government is they are morally against the initiation of force. Government is force and therefore it's existence is repugnant and unwanted. Many Anarchists focus on this argument and while debating with a statist forget another less important point that sometimes is easier to get into someones head than the morality of force by proxy. Yes, government is immoral. It is also completely unnecessary. Any quasi-legitimate role one can list for government can be done with out government. Therefore being done voluntarily and with out initiating force to meet an end.

Government is nothing but a group of people who claim the right to do all kinds of nefarious things and then "allow" you to vote, somehow legitimizing their existence. The key words to this: People. Government is made up of people. If these people can build roads, protect us, deliver mail, etc. while working together as a government, then people outside of the government can do the exact same. The only difference: the people in the latter group only provide their services to those who want them and don't force people who don't want to pay for it to do so by force.
