Cognitive Dissonance Part III

in #anarchism8 years ago

Cognitive dissonance is the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.

The person with this tattoo is the type of person I will never understand.  This is one of the most blatant examples of cognitive dissonance that I have ever come across.  I understand the idea behind Molon Labe and it's something I admire.  It supposedly comes from the Battle of Thermopylae where the Persians demanded that King Leonidas I surrender his weapons.  His response was "Molon Labe", which has a rough translation as "come and take them", the ancient equivalent of "you can pry it from my cold, dead hands."  While having one king defy another isn't really what freedom is all about, this is the type of idea that can revolutionize the world  when taken to encompass all freedoms.  While the state is more than happy to kill people within it's imaginary borders here and there, killing those same people wholesale is suicide and they know it.

The second piece to this tattoo is the American flag with the thin blue line on it.  It represents the fact that the person supports the police and American government.  The police.  And America government.  The latter is the very entity that would like nothing more than to TAKE your guns.  The former is the entity that will literally COME for your guns.  Does the person pictured think that "molon labe" is a request vice a statement of defiance?

Think I'm a conspiracy theory nut-job spouting nonsense?   Next time you see the Democrats, congratulate them on being able to dupe you so well.  Obama and Clinton, the two most powerful Democrats, have publicly and repeatedly praised Australian gun control laws.  Australia confiscated guns.  These are recorded facts.

Regardless of whatever you think of the police, they will kill you for any reason, if their masters require it.  They serve the government, not the people.  The police have a long history of following the orders of the politicians regardless of your freedom.  Who turned hoses on black people in the 60's?  Police.  Who enforced Jim Crow?  Police.  Who poisoned alcohol during prohibition, with the express purpose of killing consumers?  Police.  The list goes on and on.  When do they stop doing individual heinous acts?  When their masters order them.  The enforcement of every despicable thing that the government does within the United States is perpetrated by the thugs in blue.

Molon labe and the thin blue line, how do these two ideas together even remotely make sense; cognitive dissonance.

Sort:

The heart of so much suffering and chaos is the insidious idea that anyone has the moral right to exercise control, dominion, compulsion, or coercion in any degree of immorality upon another person.

We all would do well to cultivate within ourselves the capacity to allow others to be responsible for their own actions. We don't need anybody or group of people to do the 'thinking' for us or to provide us with an obligatory service of any kind. When in the right, educate others and persuade them with patience, kindness, pure knowledge and love to your way of doing or thinking. We have to get away from the idea that some things are too good they must be violently enforced.

An appeal to force is immoral and is based in fear.

Love invites, educates, and overcomes setbacks and ignorance with truth and waits for a response instead of compelling one.
