We are clearly not fit to raise children, if we were then we wouldn't. It's this element of rascality, the greed of wanting more of something 'you'. Whatever that might be.
Damn what you said is complex to explain in words but I really know what you mean. At the end of the day, people are looking for legacy. Only poor spirits think of children as the only possible one.
