The Perfect Society, anyone have an idea?

in #anarchism8 years ago

I have been following many blogs and writers that mention anarchism, freedom, sometimes even the libertarian party. Many Republicans or Democrats think they represent Freedom and Liberty and there point of view is the correct one. I agree that life is better when you can make decisions without fear of being bombed or locked up by some government. The ACLU does have some redeeming value, some of the time.
Is life, society, organization, progress possible without a set of rules (laws) for the people to follow? I would hope so, but I don’t know of a single example where a society is without a ruler, president or king.
I would like to start a discussion on everyone’s suggestions on what a perfect society is, can we function without police, without courts, without rules, who will build the roads? Please suggest ways how we can function without encroaching on others fundamental rights?

Nothing can be perfect - man is imperfect, and so anything we design or build will be imperfect. This is the primary reason we shouldn't have rulers. That's my opinion. Everything that the state does can be provided to people by actual businesses in the market. There literally is no need for government.

Agree, but how do we referee disputes? Our founders recognized the evil of being governed and tried to limit the power of government, however we have morphed into the current unsustainable system. How do we move back? Without bloodshed?

Refereeing disuputes can be done through the market as well, and it is already done. It's called arbitration, and there could be a market for it even in the criminal aspect as well, not just contract disputes. This decentralization of power into the market would remove the monopoly power that the state has on 'justice' - i.e. punishment, imprisonment, etc.

sorry to use links, but its the only way I know to give you the info on here right now.

Thanks for the link, I have quoted Bastiat often, but have not read any of the other French economists! Do also adhere to Austrian economics. Brings up a few questions: 1) should government do anything? 2) How do we get back to individual responsibility and no use of force by government.? 3) What society in the past has been able to function with this live and let live attitude?

Perhaps throughout most of history individuals have had the attitude of "Live and Let Live". I would argue that before the modern era governments probably had very little intervention into everyday life and most conflicts were resolved through local customs.
Governments are entirely obsolete or unnecessary today. Specifically, due to the Internet and the Blockchain. The same services can be provided in a voluntary and peaceful manner. Individuals can crowdfund or vote for what they believe is good or for their own common defense.

To address the bad player, service providers could team up with an arbitration service or even follow a rating system of market participants. If you breach your contract, then it follows you around like an Ebay rating.

When people are free to choose, and do not assume some other entity is responsible for the world, they will be inclined to be more responsible about their decision.
