Aleksa's Book Review: Politics of Obedience

So here's one for you: A French postmodernist examination of Rothbardian Anarcho-Capitalism. This book was recommended to me by the good people over at /lit and I have to say that I'm less than impressed. I understand the goal that this book was trying to achieve, but it's too short and moves too quickly for its own good.

Most of the arguments in the book are quite interesting: the sovereign has only the power that is granted him by the populace, and somesuch. That was a perfectly valid argument back in the medieval days, but nowadays the government can simply borrow whatever it can't print - so the argument of "you're acquiescing to the state's wishes and increasing its power" is a bit weak.

The book is actually written as one would expect a french piece of literature to be written - purple prose and long sentences are hardly a good way to communicate the arguments put forward by the author. It might have a good idea (explaining the voluntary servitude of the masses), but the execution is barely above average.
