Loose translation: heavy emphasis on the 'peculiar' aspect of 'peculiar people.' Believers were supposed to not be like nonbelievers. But modernity and splinter religious groups revealed them to be unlike themselves; believers unlike other believers.
It's the unrepented life which makes you feel like you woke up in a casket.; not dead, but that much closer to the afterlife.
And the Word/Bible which borrowed from Hammurabi's code, an eye for an eye left everybody blind. MLK was a prophet and martyr. We were supposed to be different from the ones who ate pigs. Now we just eat pigs and hate each other.
