I guess we all love a good walk, morning runs or evening runs, sitting and enjoying the beauty of nature, just being in the park.
Everywhere we go there will always be a park that you have to see, a park that is the soul of the city, a park that makes the city even more beautiful and special. The amazing thing about parks is that they bring you peace, you can enjoy your book, the sun, take your dog for a walk, have a first kiss… all parks, all around the world have its own story.
So all these parks are must see, just because of their story and the energy and the vibe the parks give. So that’s why, when you find yourself in New York, there is a special park that is a big attraction in the city, that you have to go and visit. The Liberty State Park.

The urban park is a park in the state of New Jersey, accurately located on the Upper New York Bay in Jersey City (the address is 200 Morris Pesin Dr).
The park was open back in 1976, it is a big park, it covers 1,212 acres/490 ha. The main park is bordered by water, on three sides,
the north side (The Morris Canal Big Basin), south and east by Upper New York Bay. The park is open for everyone from 06:00 am to 10:00 pm.

There are a couple of “secrets” about the Park, and they are:

  • There’s an abandoned rail station at Liberty State Park
  • An explosion near Liberty State Park damaged the Statue of Liberty
  • The largest planetarium in the Western hemisphere is in Liberty State Park (https://lsc.org/explore/planetarium )
  • The northern edge of Liberty State Park follows the Old Morris Canal
  • Liberty State Park was the site of a British fort and revolutionary war battle
  • Liberty State Park is the “People’s Park”
  • Take a “Kayak Eco-Tour” at Liberty State Park (check the following link if you are interested in the tour -> https://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/docs/lsp_kayak_Eco_Tour_Flyer_Dates_2018.pdf )
  • Take a ride at Liberty State Park’s Liberty Landing Ferry (http://www.libertylandingferry.com/ )
  • There’s a hidden sculpture among the Marsh Grasses in Liberty State Park
  • Liberty State Park’s cavern point natural area is a hidden gem

Beside the “secrets,” there is a road called the “Freedom Way” and this road goes through the center and serves as a barrier between the area closed to the public and the arena that is open to the public, from west to east. Also, there are bike paths, walkways, and some fields.

You may want to have a map with you, it is a big park, just check the following link for the map
-> https://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/maps/lsp_map.pdf and the direction to the Park, just follow the link -> http://www.getnj.com/lsp/lspdirections.shtml.
There is public parking which is available at Liberty State Park – 5$ per car, 10$ per bus.

Park policies are:

  • Barbecues are allowed. You must supply your own grills (charcoal, not propane).
  • Alcoholic beverages of any sort are forbidden.
  • Pets must be kept on a leash at all times.
  • Solicitation is strictly prohibited.
  • No balloons are allowed in the park
  • Recreational sports are permitted.

It is a perfect place to take your family, spend a nice day, relax and enjoy the beauty of the Park! And it is the best place to view the New York Skyline.
