Amazon is testing an unmanned delivery robot

in #amazon5 years ago

American online retailer Amazon announced on Wednesday, January 23, that it will test a new delivery system using an unmanned robot called Amazon Scout.

This is a small six-wheeled device that can be used to deliver small parcels in suburbs with private houses. Amazon will test delivery with six Scout in a Seattle suburb of Snohomish. Robots will ride on the sidewalks during the daytime on weekdays.

Robots of this kind can be used for the so-called delivery of the last mile, that is, the delivery of goods directly to the client. As Dan Cara, vice president of robotization of WTWH Media, notes, while the movement of goods in warehouses is already partially automated, their delivery on the street is a much more complicated process due to curbs, descents and ascents, environmental conditions, etc. “This may work in a new area, which is well lit and has good sidewalks, but most of the world is not like that, and most of the United States too,” he said.

Previously, Amazon has already tested the delivery of goods using unmanned aerial vehicles, and the online retailer is already using robots to move goods in its warehouses.
