Could Amazon get crushed by AI? 🤔🤖

in #amazon5 years ago

Not really a next 5 or 10 years sort of thing, but eventually.

In a sense I guess the question isn't that interesting, because everything will evolve and revolutionize at some point.

Besides having a knack for pleasing the customer ✅✅ Amazon is essentially a connection between buyers and sellers and a distribution mechanism. So as AI and decentralized reputation mechanisms become better and better..

Seems like a bot should be able to quickly scan all of the internet for a trustworthy seller in the same way that an Amazon search function works today, and then map an efficient way to ship it.

There might be some slight downsides, like needing to navigate a different checkout experience. But maybe part of being a high reputation seller would mean that you know you should use the "standard" checkout procedure that all the other top sellers typically use. (And bots can easily filter for only sellers who have that script, if it matters to the user.)

And the plus side is you get to choose from all of what's out there rather than just what's on Amazon. (Which today is almost the same thing, but not quite. Once in a while you find things you need or a better price outside of Amazon. And more people would sell things if there wasn't a big registration process and fees.)

*And of course I mean "Amazon" as in the amazon.com part of their business. They already have lots of other things going on and might evolve and stay dominant. I mean the marketplace won't exist anymore.

Decentralization is just better.

Everything will fall at some point.

For a little more star power behind what I'm saying, let's take a listen to the great Andreas Antonopoulos:

What he says about Uber is largely the same concept.

It's probably a little more distant future that we get to that point with Amazon, but with the right level of technology we don't really need a centralized party running the marketplace and getting a small cut of everything.

Which isn't anti-profit or anti-business. Profit is great, and it helps other people get what they need. It just has no purpose anymore when technology can replace it.

So remember that, you people who are worried that the robots are taking our jerrrrbs. They're taking our corporate conglomerates too. (They're taking those big CEO paychecks that you hate so much.)

And how will we ever survive in such a world? Seems pretty easy. You could ride around in self-driving cars nearly for free and collect things to sell to people and your drone delivers it.

But if you watch YouTube or television, the megalomaniacs will tell you about all their wacky ideas and why you need to give them power to protect you from this. 😂😂😂😴😴

Sort:

I really like your decentralized futures, bro! Optimistic!

Everything will fall at some point

Including decentralization

Lol

But if you watch YouTube or television, the megalomaniacs will tell you about all their wacky ideas and why you need to give them power to protect you from this.

...then, years later when AI is inevitable, they'll turn around and incorporate into their businesses like they designed it.

(think Wall Street and their previous stance on bitcoin and then the rise of Ripple, JP coin and Libra)

Including decentralization

🤔🤔 nah, it doesn't fall .. decentralized is just what remains when we don't need to centralize it anymore

it's like the fundamental human force

...then, years later when AI is inevitable, they'll turn around and incorporate into their businesses like they designed it.

Ya, I think Amazon is very involved in automation already and for all we know could end up becoming a robot maker company more than anything.

Eventually robots themselves get easier and cheaper to make.. more people have more technology that automates the building process.. and then robot making business model will eventually fade too

Eventually we just can make everything we need very easily.

Which I guess is kinda similar to Libra etc. Libra will probably work for a period of time, but eventually it will be bitcoin/decentralized
