Did you know that a person can die from overhydration or water poisoning? A normal person can drink 7 liters of water daily, that is 1.5 liters maximum in one hour intervals.

There was a case in the UK of Jacqueline Henson, who died after drinking four liters of water in less than two hours.

The water we drink is eliminated by the body through urine and sweat. But, if we take too much, the kidneys are not able to work fast enough to remove excess fluid from the body. When that happens, the levels of sodium, potassium and chlorine in the blood are reduced. And the consequence is that the person notices symptoms such as dizziness, nausea. It is what is known as water intoxication.

The way in which hyperhydration works is as follows: it produces an excessive dilution of sodium in the blood (hyponatremia) and increases the production of antidiuretic hormone. In extreme cases, with sodium levels lower than 100 mmol / L, irreversible cerebral edema can be produced, commas, or even die by overpressure of the brain to the medulla oblongata, since the brain and its annexes are the ones that are most affected.
